THE FIRST European commercial vehicle motor show of the year opened this week in Geneva. CM's team was there to pick out the exhibits of special interest to British operators. Our report on the Geneva show, where all the major truck manufacturers are laying out their stalls for 1986, is in next week's issue.

• One of the exhibitors at Geneva will be Daimler-Benz, a company with a strong Swiss connection since it acquired a major stake in what was the only remaining Swiss truck builder, Saurer. N A W, Nutzfahrzeug Arbon and Wetzikon, is the name of the company which grew out of the Mercedes/Saurer link.

Low-volume Mercedes trucks including t 2033 6 x 2 and 3025K 8 x 4 tipper are no, converted at the MAW Arbon plant while Wetzikon is responsible for producing tro buses and bus and coach chassis. We havc been finding out what other projects Dan Benz is diverting to Switzerland. The full story is in next week's issue.

• Cost-effective buses will be a must in t new de-regulated environment. One with possibilities is the automatic version of Bedford's YMT. CM has tested an examt with Alu-Suisse bodywork by Wrights of Ballymena.
