Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

INDEPENDENT country bus opera" tors seeking to run excursions in and from North Yorkshire will be vigorously opposed by United Automobile Services, Ltd., said Mr. J. L. R. Croft. for the company, at Stockton last week, Messrs. F. T. and P. Dunning. Great Ayton, applied to run a seasonal circular tour of the Lincolnshire tulip fields, evening theatre trips to Newcastle upon Tyne and Stockton throughout the year, and excursions to point-topoint meetings in the north.

After the applicants agreed to several minor modifications suggested by Mr. Croft, the application was granted by the acting chairman, Mr. G. W. Duncan.

Mr. Croft said that U.A.S. viewed the entry of newcomers into the excursion neld with "some trepidation." U.A.S. did not run point-to-point trips, but had regular pleasure tours. These could not stand competition, especially as services from the comPany's Stokesley depot were maintained at above operating cost.
