pMATE enterprise in Scottish road haulage is extending. A. further nine vehicles (301 tons), including two articulated Outfits, have been taken over • by Road Services (Caledonian), Ltd., Dumfries, who now have 123 vehicles running under special

A licences. This latest batch was assigned to the company by one of the directors, Mr. Ernest Sanderson.

Alexander Scott (Contractors), Ltd., are understood to have bought the British Road Services' depot in Vickers Street, Manchester, for a price in the region of 480,000. Twenty-eight multi wheelers are included. Operation has already begun, and a night trunk service -to Scotland is envisaged.

Inter City Transport and Trading Co., Ltd., Cambernauld, Glasgow, have increased their Capital by 4147,000 to L150,000. , SCOTLAND Road Services (Caledonian), Ltd., Dum' fries, have 'added a further nine vehicles 1304 tons), including two articulated outfits, to their fleet. They were assigned to riled* Mr. Ernest Sanderson. Glasgow; a director of the company, and Of Millburn Motors, Ltd., Glasgow. Two. of the lorries were,bascd at Dumfries and the two articulated outfits at Glasgow.

Since itwas reported in The Commer-, cid Motor on December 10 last that Road Services (Caledonian), Ltd., had taken over 103 vehicles from B.g.s.,. they have added to their fleet another II, all articulated outfits, based at Preston. The latter purchase was reported on January 28. .

Fourteen lorries (58 tons) have been acquired by F. and F. Transport, _Ltd„ in a first purchase. A further seven vehicles (44) tons) have been bought by Munro's Transport (Aberdeen), Ltd., Aberdeen.

London. Scottish Transport, Ltd., Glasgow, have had six lorries (34) tons) and six trailers, based at Alva, transferred to them by Mr. William S. Dick, Glasgow: Six vehicles (28) tons) have also gone to Messrs. Park's Transport, Hamilton.

Central Garage. (Bathgate), Ltd., Bathgate, have assigned five vehicles (33} tons), including an articulated outfit, as follows: three (18 tons), including the articulated outfit, to John Hunter and Sons (Transport), Ltd., Airdrie; one (71 tons) to Messrs. Rapid Road Transports, Greenock ; and one (7.) tons) to Messrs. Russell of Bathgate, Bathgate.

Mr. George Tait, Peebles, has taken over one lorry Of tons) from Dalkeith Transport and Storage Co., Ltd. Dalkeith. One of two lorries (6 tons) bought by Ed. Robertson and Co., Ltd., Dundee, has been transferred to Mr. Thomas Baird, Cumbemauld.

NORTHERN AREA Two lorries (6 -tons 4 cwt.) have been taken over by Davy and Co. (Grange), Ltd. (K. Fell and Co.), Station Square, Grange-over-Sands, in a first purchase. Another new buyer is Mr. S. Turner (Turner Bros.), 3 Clarence Crescent, Whitley Bay, who has acquired one vehicle (2 tons 18 cwL).

Mr. A. Robson (Messrs. G. C. and A. Robson), Town Head Garage, Slaley, Hexham, has bought another lorry (4 tons 7 cwt..).

J. W. Capstaff, Ltd., Little Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne, have assigned a lorry (3) tons), based at Newcastle upon Tyne, to Mr. R. B. Laurie, Scotia Street, Glasgow, C.4 NORTH-WEST

Three-vehicle purchases (9 tons each). have been made by Mr.-1. S. Evans, Bryn, Sarum, Llanymynech, Mont, -and Mr. Caffcry, 2 Sheath Street, Northsvich. It is Mr: Evans' first successful tender. Messrs. S. Boswell and Sons, Gladstone Way, Queensferry, near Chester, have acquired two vehicles (6) tons) in a first purchase. Another first purchaser ' who has been successful with a tender. for two vehicles (6 tons) is Mr. E. R. Cowen, 55 Brown Street, Manchester, 2, Thomas Guy, Ltd., Black Horse Farm, Burscough who have taken over a lorry (7) tons) from. Mr.T.Guy, of the same address, have transferred one(4 tons) to Messrs. W. and A. Tabun (Tabern and Sons), 47 Kirkland Street, St. Helens.

,Mr. J. Keenan, I lrwell Chambers West, 6 Fazackerley Street, Liverpool, 6, has transferred three lorries (8 tons) to M. A. Keenan and Sons. Ltd., of the same address.

Mr. J. E. Frodsham: Silverdale, Waddicar Lane, Melling, near Liverpool, has acquired two lorries (7 tons), and Messrs. H. and S. Transport, 4 Buxton Road, Dove Holes, via Stockport, two (6 tons).

Judging from the list of members being enrolled into the local area of the RoadHaulage Association, a number of former operators is returning to the industry in Sheffield, reports our Yorkshire correspondent.

With the exception of tourconcerns, all the purchasers reported this week have been successful with tenders in the past. C. R. Lockyer, Ltd., 41 Howsell Road, Malvern Link, have made over six lorries (181 tons) to Lockyer's Transport, Ltd., of the same address. J. B. Coleman (Haulage), Ltd., Oadby, Leics, have taken over two lorries (15 tons) from Little Haywood Transport, Ltd., 39 Park Street, Burton-onTrent.

The West Midland Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences to the following new purchasers: Mr. W. N. SOUTH WALES A total of 19 vehicles (921 tons) is involved in assignments recently made by Valley Carriers, and Grove Garages (Penarth), Ltd., to Valley Carriers, Ltd., all of Grove Terrace, Penarth.

Mr. W. M. Boyle (E. Boyle and Son), Central Garage, Glebe Street, Pcnarth, has made over two of three vehicles (19 tons). One (61 tons) has gone to Abernant Transport (Rhigos), Ltd., Abernant Yard, Glyn Neath, Glam., and one (5 tons) to Trevor Gethin Phillips, Ltd., Glanrhyd, Cadoxton Road, Neath. Trevor Getbin Phillips, Ltd., have also been granted a special A licence for another lorry (74 tans).

Mr. Cyril Williams, 4 Cemetery Road, Brynmawr, has had. transferred to him two lorries (144 tons) by Mr. F. T. Carter, Hill Top Garage, Brynmawr. Entress Transport, Ltd., St. Mary Street, Swansea, have made over three vehicles (234 tons) to Mr. Brinley Demery, Penlan, Pentreporth Road, Morriston, Swansea. Mr. W. R. Williams, Tanygarreg Garage, Llanbadarn, Aberystwyth, who has acquired two lorries and two containers (74 tons), has transferred one lorry and a meat container (41 tons) to Mr. T. LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Four vehicles (11 tons 8 cwt.) and four trailers have been taken over from British Road Services by Clark and James, Ltd., Blount Street, London, E.14. Four lorries (10 tons 17 cwt.) have also gone to Phcenix Wharf, Ltd., Frog Island, Rainham, Fasex. J. and H. Transport Services (Peckham), Ltd., 1 la Selden Road, London, S.E.15, have bought two lorries (64 torts) in a repeat purchase. Two-vehicle purchases have also been made by Mr. P. A. Paxman, 12 Chadwell Road, Grays, Essex (6 tons); Messrs. F. C. Seager and S. E. Simner, 561 Chessington Road, West .Ewell (5 tons

19 cwt.); Mr. G. A. Turner, Little Heath Farm, Steels Lane, Oxshott (5 tons 2 cwt.); and Renown Transport Co., Ltd., 95 Moore Park Road, London. S.W.6 (7 tons 4 cwt.), assigned by Mr. W. White,

Three lorries (7 tons 1 cwt.) and three trailers, acquired by Mr. G. W. Kibler, 20 Greenwich South Street, London, S.E.10, have been assigned: two lorries (4 tons 13 cwt.) and two trailers to J. Palmer Tranglort, Ltd., Palmers Wharf, Prince Street, London, S.E.8, and a lorry and a trailer to Burn Transport, Ltd., in the Northern Traffic Area.

Beverley Haulage Co., Ltd., 24 Dawlish Avenue, London, S.W.18, are among five operators who have had vehicles assigned to them by Valliant Direct Coaches, Ltd., 38 Uxbridge Road, London, W.5. They have had two (5 tons 14 cwt.) made over to them. The other assignees are Mr. H. J. Benton, 4 Kennington Road, London, S.E.1, one (2 tons 19 cwt.); Mr. A. Hearn, Benvenue, Benvcnue Avenue, Eastwood, Southend-on-Sea, one (2 tons 19 cwt.), based in London; Messrs. H. L Hobbs and Son, 130 Evelyn Grove, Southall. Middx, one (2 tons 16 cwt.); and Lee's Direct Transport (Enfield), Ltd., 372 Hertford Road, Enfield, one.

The lorry taken over by Lee's Direct Transport is a Dodge 6-tonner. It is one of six special A licence vehicles run by the company, mainly to the Midlands and South Wales. They hope to purchase more ex-B.R.S. lorries.

Special A licences, each for one vehicle. have been granted by the Metropolitan Licensing Authority to Mr. W. C. Croney.

Nichols, Gillingham, one (3 tons); and Mr. T. A. Turner, Middle Broyle Farm, Ringmer, one (3 tons). Mr. Nichols' lorry was assigned to him by Messrs. Blythe Bros., Sittingbourne.
