Outspoken Views From B.R.F.

MrGaston Vincent, Public Relations Officer of the B.R.F., made a forceful sreech on Monday last to the Winchester Incorporated Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Vincent opened with the observation that " the restriction of road transport and the failure adequately to construct the road system of this country, are aspects of one and the same problem." He went on to point out that, by endless legislation, the authorities have tried to make the traffic fit the roads.

After strong criticism of the Five Year Plan for road improvement, Mr. Vincent (who, as a point of interest. was a member of the German Roads Delegation of 1937) concluded by aslging :-" How long is this great and progressive nation to be denied the full value of the modem motor vehicle by failure adequately to improve the roads, coupled with needlessly repressive measures directed against the vehicles that run upon them?"

A.R.O. and Coal Distribution Rates.

It is understood that the Forest of Dean Sub-area of A.R.O. will shortly be calling a meeting to consider the possibility of fixing prices for retail coal distribution in the area.

Roads Model in Leeds.

On the occasion of a Yorkshire Spring Motor Show, which is being held at the premises of Messrs. Appleyards of Leeds, from February 24 to March 5, the B.R.F. will display its model which features a conception of the motor road of the future.

Evidence Before House of Lords.

Mr. Gresham Cooke, secretary of the B.R.F.. was asked by the House of Lords Roads Committee, to give evidence before that body on Wednesday last regarding the need for better roads and for amending the legal restriction on road transport.

B.R.F. and Women's Institutes.

Alive to all the possibilitie in the way of making the public "ioad-safetyconscious," the B.R.F. is launching a campaign of lectures at women's institutes.

Although this new venture has not yet been fully developed, it is hoped that it will become an important factor in the work of securing a united front in the fight for improvement in' road conditions and safety.
