Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TRADE union representatives were I told by the employers at a meeting in London, last week, that there could be no increase in wages for vehicle builders. The National Union of Vehicle Builders, the Amalgamated Society of Woodcutting Machinists and the Electrical Trades Union sought a substantial increase in pay on the grounds of the higher cost of living and the industry's greater efficiency and profits.

The National Employers' Association of Vehicle Builders, the National Federation of Vehicle Trades and the Scottish National Vehicle Builders' Association replied that the cost of living was stable this year and that profits were not as great as they had been in the past.

After receiving the employers reply, the trade union representatives stated that they would decide on what further action they would take. Vehicle builders last receivecra wage increase in January.
