Refuse-collecting Vehicles Wanted.

THE sanitation section of the Liege municipality is calling for fenders, which have to be presented in Liege by December 27th, for the supply of motor vehicles for the collection of refuse. Those concerns which can offer vehicles of British manufacture can obtain further particulars of the authority's requirements by applying to the Department of Overseas Trade, 35, Old Queen Street, London, S.W.1, quoting reference AX. 7,261.

Canadian-built Vehicles in Demand.

CONSIDERABLE activity continues to prevail, as regards the overseas demand for Canadian motorvans, lorries and buses. During September last no fewer than 2,391 vehicles, valued at 1170,653, were exported from the Dominion—as against 1,016 vehicles in the corresponding month of 1927— bringing up the total for the first nine months of the year to 14,754 vehicles, of a value of £1,058,172.

• The September returns sho* that over 92 per cent, of the exported vehicles.-2,257, to give the exact number—had a carrying capacity not exceeding 1 ton. India is at present the best market for Canadian vehicles, being credited with 654 of the total, followed by Australia with 270, Chile 170, New Zealand 168, West Africa 157, East Africa 146, Venezuela 144, and Colombia –(i8.

Irish Free State Imports.

DURING October last 30 commercial vehicles, valued at 116,413, were imported into the Irish Free State, bringing up the total for the first ten months of the year to 444 vehicles (£164,697), as compared with 666 and £210,982 respectively in the corresponding period a year ago.

Mexican Road Transport Developments.

SOME interesting developments in

Thus, we learn that the Mexican National Railways have recently established a throughexpress goods transport service from Mexico City to Acapulco, a port on the west coast. Farm Tractor Expansion in Bavaria. THE tractor is assuming greater agricultural and industrial importance in Bavaria, where the older methods of land cultivation are being slowly but surely replaced by the use of such machines. Wheel tractors are most popular, those of the track laying type beine-' used only to a small extent. One of the most popular German tractors in use in Bavaria is theHanornag, which is manufactured by the Hanuoversche Masehinenbau Aktiengesellschaft, of Hanover. It is a wheel-type machine of 32 h.p. and is retailed in Munich for about £240.

Commercial Motor Progress in Roumania.

ACCORDING to return recently

issued by the Roumanian Ministry of the Interior there are now 5,896 commercial vehicles registered in Roumania, as compared with 3,725 a year ago. The total is made up of 4,681 lorries and vans, 1,016 motorbuses, 83 tank wagons and 116road tractors.

Overseas Buyers of Thornycrofts.

AMONGST orders recently received from overseas by John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., one of the most interesting has been placed by the Rio de Janeiro Light told Power Co., which has indented for ten 30-cwt. chassis through Thornycroft (Brazil). Another noteworthy order has come from the Roumanian Government, which is buying two 3-ton six-wheeled lorries. Berlin's Six-wheeled Bus Fleet.

THE fleet of 100 new six-wheeled buses ordered sown time ago by the Berlin General Motor Bits Co., to replace some of the old four-wheeled bases at present in use in the German capital, is now being gradually brought into service. The new vehicles are of the covered-top double-deck type, and have seating accommodation for 28 passengers inside and 32 outside, whilst there is" Olin room for 14 standing passengers, or a total of 74 persons.

Australia's Imports for August.

IN our issue for last week we dealt

with the imports of motor vehicles into Australia during the month of July, and figures have just come to hand which deal with the imports into the Commonwealth in August. During that month 5,595 unassembled chassis and 624 assembled chassis were imported, 3,836 of the former and 516 of the latter having the United States as the country of origin. Of the unassembled chassis 789 were shipped from the United Kingdom, whilst 42 assembled chassis were received from the same source.

The total value of unassembled chassis imported was £458,004 and of assembled chassis 173,749. Although the number of unassembled chassis was down as compared with the previous month, assembled chassis showed a rise of 190 over the figure for July.

Overseas Popularity of S.D. Freighters. THE S.D Freighters manufactured by

Shelvoke and Drewry, Ltd., of Betelsworth, have achieved much popularity in certain overseas countries, and at Rangoon the authorities have over 30 such machines in service. During the current year the maker has shipped Freighters for service in South America, Egypt, Poland, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the Federated 'Malay States and for use in Gibraltar and Hong Kong. This type of vehicle is particularly suitable for use in districts where native labdur only is available, as its form of control is foolproof and is not liable to damage by rough handling.
