Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Although Three Types of Vehicle are in Use at Bradford, Motorbuses and Trolley-buses are Gaining Ground at the Expense of the Tramcars.

THE Bradford municipal authorities have in operation at the present time three forms of passenger transport— tramcars, trolley vehicles and motorbuses. The municipality was one of the pioneers of trolley-buses and bad a series of routes maintained by such vehicles in operation before the war, arid, at one time, it built in the workshops of the department a six-wheeled vehicle, this being, it is claimed, the first passenger vehicle of its type operated in this country.

Big developments in connection with the more mobile forms of passenger transport may be expected in Bradford during the next few years. The statutoiT notice has just been given that it is the intention of the corporation to apply for a provisional Order to convert any of the existing tramway routes to the trolley-bus system. This will enable tramways to be abandoned as it is thought necessary and trolley vehicles substituted for them.

Presumably it will be possible for motorbuses to be put into operation on certain routes, as and when desired, as the corporation has powers to operate these vehicles, and it is likely that each route wilt be considered on its merits when the time comes for the tram track to be renewed or the tramways service to be substituted by motorbuses or trolley-buses.

Recently the Greengates tramways route was closed and the service from the city undertaken by Leyland Titan double-deck buses. The route is as far as Undercliffe on the tram track, and the same service is being maintained through to Greengates by a like number

of buses as -tramcars. The change over from one system to another appears to be appreciated and a feature of the operation of the motorlmaes is the attraction of the upper saloon for ladies —probably °Wing to the easy access which is given to the top deck.

, The tram track was due for reneWal in about three year's time, but in censequence of rcied alterations on a somewhat extensive scale it was necessary to remove some of the track almost imme diately, and it was not considered advisable to relay this portion, as the cost cf renewing the whole section was more than the returns justified. The city council has authorized the tramways depot to convert the Thac.klay to Saltaire section of tramways track for working by trolley vehieles,.this being a route over which., atthe present time, a 20-minute service'is ran for the greater part of the day. , What. the trolley-bus service will be is'net settled.
