Toll bills

SUCH has been the volume of protest to proposed toll increases on the Severn Bridge that a public inquiry will probably be held.

Over 60 objections, many from local authorities, have been lodged, and the Department of Environment says it expects to hold an inquiry soon, but has fixed no date yet.

Tanker repair

A REDUNDANT tanker factory in Bradford has been reopened as an overhaul works for oil companies' vehicles.

Newco Ltd, a subsidiary of Curumpton Ltd, is overhauling, repairing, and refurbishing tankers and tanker trailers at the Friar's Works, Idle, Bradford premises owned previously by Yorkshire Engineering and Welding.

Profits up

DESPITE reduced commercial vehicle activities, the Heron Motor Group increased its pre-tax profits last year by 51.6 per cent to just over Om.

Turnover was £134m, a 26 per cent increase, while, in addition, there was a pre-tax surplus of £2.2m following last year's sale of the group's interest in Henly's.

Heron is known to be planning a reduction in the scale of its Glasgow-based Scottish commercial vehicle operations, but intends to maintain a presence in the city.

Production level

PRODUCTION of commercial vehicles in Britain last month totalled 27,100.

Seasonally adjusted, this represents 34,000 vehicles, compared to a monthly seasonally adjusted figure of 34,600 vehicles.

The July 1977 figure was 27,000 vehicles, seasonally adjusted to 33,400, while the monthly seasonally adjusted figure was 33,200 for all of 1977.
