Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As members for a considerable number of years of the Road Haulage Association we feel that the Public Relations department of the Association has once again failed miserably to put the case of the road transport industry in the present dock crisis.

From all sides one's ears and eyes are assailed by the causes of the dockers, stevedoring firms, warehousing firms, shipping firms. farmers and every other section of the community on radio, TV and in the press. hardly a squeak has been raised from the Road Haulage Association to reveal the very severe hardship that member firms and their staff are having to suffer.

As a firm we have always appreciated the efforts of our local officers of the RHA and its able secretary but for a long time we have felt that its press and publicity activities are a miserable failure. The members of the RHA deserve something better and the officers of the Association should take immediate steps to get in some of the best minds in the P.R. business to champion the cause of this much maligned industry at every possible Opportunity.

It may be that the dock crisis will be settled by the time this letter is published but there is always the very vociferous anti-road transport lobby, whose every erroneous statement goes unchallenged, left to deal with. So let us see some action at last.

P. H. BETTS, Hatcher Freightlines (UK) Ltd.
