:ORD OF BRITAIN'S profit fell ast year from 1979's £386m beore tax to £226m. The after-tax igure dropped from £347m to 204m.
Commenting on a year in vhich Ford's commercial vehicle ;ales declined from 91,414 to 37,638, but increased their mar:et share from 30.4 to 32.9 per :ent, Ford chairman Sam Toy .aid: "It was a year that began veil, and then fell away dramaically. We achieved excellent narket shares, but the world reession bit deep and volumes 'moped sharply.
"By the second half of the 'ear, the company was making lo profit on its operations."
