Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BUS FARES on the Isle of Wight are to be cut during the period of the winter timetable by amounts ranging from lp to 7p as part of a £120,000 fares package.

The package was negotiated between the Southern Vectis bus company and the Isle of Wight County Council and will give the company revenue support to keep loss making routes operating during the winter.

A peak surcharge was imposed by the company in June and the fares went up in March. But company general manager Mr Michael Wads worth said that the company financial position was such that the fares would have had to stay high but for the package.

He said that the success of the scheme was dependant on people using the buses during the winter. Southern Vectis can carry up to twice as many passengers on a summer week as in the winter.

At the same time the day and week bus tickets will be going down as will the fares on the Ryde to Shanklin railway but rail season tickets will stay the same.
