GREATER Glasgow PTE's bus strike is now four weeks old and is showing no sign of an early resolution.

GGPTE personnel manager Alan Gray met Department of Transport and Department of Employment officials on Monday and was told that no Government support would be given to any breach of the five per cent pay guidelines.

Maintenance staff are seeking rises in excess of the guidelines and have rejected PTE offers which include a self-financing productivity deal.

This has led to the suspension of all Glasgow city bus services and private hire coaches, and the executive proposes to lay off the other 4,000 employees very shortly.

The strike has already cost over Elm.
