Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH Christmas decorations returning to the West End of London for the first time for many years, the Metropolitan Police has asked coach operators and their drivers to stick to special conditions when bringing parties to visit the capital.

The police have arranged for special set-down and pick-up points for use throughout the Christmas period. They are: • Park Lane, W1 — west side of the northbound lane clear of bus stops and the underground car park; • Charles II Street, WI — south side of the road, between the Haymarket and Regent Street (this one-way street can be approached from the Haymarket); • Horseguards Avenue, SW1—both sides of the road between Whitehall Place and Victoria Embankment; • Malet Street, WC1 — both sides clear of the pedestrian crossing between Keppel Street and Montague Place; • Montague Place, WC1 — on the north side, clear of entrances; • Baker Street — between George Street and Seymour Mews, clear of road junctions and traffic signals (one-way street south); • Adeline Place, WC1 — east side, clear of road junctions after 1830 hours (approach from Bedford Place).

It is stressed that these are only set-down and pick-up points. Drivers should ask passengers to return to coaches at the required time to avoid congestion.

Coaches must be parked at recognised off-street coach parks when not picking up or setting down. In addition to normal coach parks, over the Christmas period the coach park at Gloucester Slips (near the Zoo), Regents Park will remain open until 22.30 hours; coach parking will be provided in the North Carriage Road, Hyde Park (north side) until 23.30 hours; and the 'Horse Ride' in the Mall until 23.30 hours.

Permits for these parks should be obtained in advance from the Superintendent of Royal Parks, Store Yard, Hyde Park, London, W2, telephone 01-211 6476.

In addition, the Oxford Street regulation banning general traffic, including coaches, from 0700 hours to 1900 hours has been extended to midnight, including Sundays, until January 6, 1976.

The Metropolitan Police Coach Advisory Service at Room 618, Tintagel House, Albert Embankment, SE1 would also like to hear from coach operators planning to send coaches to London over this period to so that it can make plans accordingly.
