• Faster vehicle approval for TIR operation should result from a series of discussions which have just been concluded between the Vehicle Bodybuilders' and Repairers' Association and officials of the Department of the Environment.
The DoE area mechanical engineers are to work more closely with bodybuilders in interpreting the regulations which refer to TIR approval.
It has been recommended that bodybuilding companies should appoint a senior staff member as a TIR liaison officer who will collaborate with the senior officer of the inspection division of the area traffic office responsible for issuing TIR certificates. This should remove some of the delay in obtaining approval which has existed in the past.
