Mr. L. H. Merryweather, who was formerly with the Vulcan concern as manager of its Manchester depot, has now joined the sales organization of Guy Motors, Ltd.

It was a pleasure to see at Olympia Mr. Leonard Dewing, on the MercedesBenz stand. Mr. Dewing, it will be remembered, was for a long time with Carrimore Six Wheelers, Ltd., and in his new post he is busily engaged in travelling up and down the country visiting the Mercedes-Benz agents and stimulating the sales campaign. Mr. Dewing is a popular member of the industry and we wish him success in his new position.

We extend our congratulations to Mr. A. E. Palmer Phillips, F.I.M.T., director of sales for the products of Vauxhall and General Motors, Ltd., who has been elected president of the Institute of the Motor Trade for the ensuing year. The following vice-presidents have been re-elected :—Sir Herbert Austin, K.B.E., the Rt. Hon. Earl Howe, C.B.E., Sir George Beharrell, D.S.O., Sir Edward Manville, J.P., Mr. G. W. Lucas and Mr. F. S. Bennett.

Commer Distribution in India.

A new company, known as Allied Motors, Ltd., which was recently formed to distribute and service Commer commercial vehicles, as well as RollsRoyce, Humber and Hillman cars, in Western India, Delhi and United Provinces, has now opened showrooms in Bombay and Delhi. The managing director of the company is Mr. Raymond Chandler, late manager of Rolls-Royce (India), Ltd., whilst Mr. J. W. S. Mines, late of Rootes, Ltd., in London, is acting as sales director.

A Useful Direction Indicator. "

The Aroway Direction Indicator appeals to vehicle owners because of its simplicity. It comprises a simple illuminated arrow mounted inside the cab, visible through the screen and manually operated by the driver. It is electrically connected to a neat selfcontained direction indicator, stoplight and rear lamp. Movement of the front arrow controls the indications on the direction sign at the rear. The stop signal is controlled in the usual way by the pedal. The maker is Motor Direction Indicators, Ltd., Sefton Grove, Lark Lane, Liverpool Big Development in Synthetic Rubber.

The development by the Du Pont de Nemours Co., of Wilmington. Delaware, of a new synthetic rubber was announced at a recent meeting of the rubber division of the American Chemical Society, when papers were read by Mr. F. B. Downing, Mr. W. H. Carothers and Mr. Ira Williams, the chemists who participated in the research work. The new synthetic rubber, which is described as a "long step towards the solution of the world's rubber problem," uses acetylene together with salt and water.

It is also announced that plant is being installed at Deepwater Point, New Jersey, for the manufacture of the new material, which is to be known as Duprene, on a commercial scale.
