No dismal forecasts about the younger generation need be applied in Oldham, if Seddon Motors' experience is any guide. Making provision for its future labour needs, the company is creating and equipping a training school to take 40 apprentices a year —and already Seddon has had enough applications to fill its first year's intake twice over, with youngsters having a minimum of four 0 levels.
Those Lancashire lads have their heads screwed on right.
As well as the obvious advantages, they'll be getting a hidden bonus in the very forwardlooking production engineering atmosphere they'll absorb. Going round the Woodstock Works recently, I was most impressed by the ingenuity in machine-tool specification and adaptation to achieve some really remarkable improvements in output. I detect the hand of D. W. Redmond, engineering and production director in this and he has every reason to be proud of the set-up.
