Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I see that the Ministry of Transport has fallen into the Four-in-Line trap. They're not the first—or the last. The Ministry has sent an apology, with its latest Standard Lists, for describing as "Four-in-Line" some trailers made by companies other than the British Trailer Co. Ltd.

Before you smirk, may I ask who among you has never spoken of a Hoover or a Thermos which wasn't? You can't be too careful in print; trade names aren't confined simply to things like Jeep and Vaseline; Undersea] is another, and so is Breathalyser, I'm told. As for the trailer thing, well BTC simply got in first with an extremely appropriate name. And we've had to invent twinoscillating axles as a generic mouthful to describe that layout.
