NEXT WEEK CM looks at specialised and interesting articulated combinations designed to make food distribution as efficient as possible.

• Argyll Stores is better known under its High Street names, which include Presto and Liptons. These two chains are very different but their distribution fleet is integrated and so the company wanted a vehicle that could equally well serve both. The result is a unique new trailer design developed with York.

• Mr Kipling also runs a fleet of trailers that has reached a specification that allows fast and efficient handling of his sometimes delicate cakes. The company's transport division borrowed ideas and equipment from the air-freight industry to get the cakes to the shelves and in good condition.

• Continuing the theme of getting the food into the shops, David Wilcox has visited the Institute of Grocery Distribution. It has an impressive corporate membership list including the top supermarket chains and food distribution companies and yet we hear so little from it. Find out more about the Institute and what it does in next week's CM. • Operating engineers may be more concerned with what component is breaking down today rather than jam tomorrow, but when a major vehicle manufacturer is prepared to give specific pointers how its engineers see heavy vehicle design developing, few would not take note. Tim Blakemore has been peering into Leyland's crystal ball, looking particularly for some predictions on fuel economy — it's in next week's Engineer's Notebook.

• Noel Millier has been out in Van Hool's impressive Astromega double-deck coach. He took the £150,000 vehicle on a 200-mile drive around the South East coastlands. Read his full report next week.

• The second Accessories and Components Exhibition takes place at Wembley Conference Centre from Wednesday March 28 until Friday March 30 and CM is sponsoring this exhibition which is completely dedicated to the commercial vehicle. You will find everything from anti-lock braking systems to spray suppression flaps and admission is free. For more details and a preview of what is on show read CM next week.
