TALKS NOW underway could lead to lower speed limits for heavy vehicles, at least in built-up areas.

This was revealed by John Horam, Under Secretary for Transport, when he dealt in the Commons recently with questions from MPs worried about the speed of these vehicles, especially through villages.

"We are having consultation on revised criteria for speed limits. These may well propose lower criteria for obtaining a speed limit," said Mr Horam. "I think this will help with the general problem, about which I am concerned."
