FARE increase proposaWkdbmitted to the Scottish Traffic Commissioners by the Scottish Bus Group came under unprecedented criticism at a recent hearing in Edinburgh.
Two days of crowded and noisy criticism of the proposals were heard from representatives of regions, districts, transport organisa tions and individual passengers.
Scottish Bus Group executive director, Arthur Newman, sought permission to raise fares by an average 15 per cent. He claimed that any lower grant would simply mean that in the following year much greater increases would be required by the seven group companies. Among the many objectors to the proposals was Lothian Regional Council, who contended that the increases were too high.
