Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TTHREE points where glaring injustices in the Transport Act might be immediately removed or modified were mentioned by Mr. R. Morton Mitchell. chief executive officer of the Road Haulage Association, at the Association's South Yorkshire Area dinner, in Sheffield, last Friday.

If the Mt were to remain on the Statute Book, said Mr. Morton Mitchell, there should be an extension of the 25-mile radius. There was no reason why a vehicle, capable of a 100-mile out-and-return journey each day, should be restricted to a quarter of that distance because a permit was not granted.

It was wrong that decisions on applications for permits should rest with the Road Haulage Executive. Hauliers were willing to acccept the impartial decisions of the Licensing Authorities.

"Why is it," continued Mr. Morton Mitchell, "that the British Transport' Commission is allowed to run as many vehicle's as it likes, while hauliers must prove their need ? The B.T.C. should be forced to show need for placing extra vehicles on the road."
