Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALTHOUGH the transport department of PRESTON Corporation has had only a limited experience with one oil-engined bus, it has been found that the fuel consumption averages a gallon for 9.43 miles, as against 4.76 miles with petrol-engined vehicles of the same type operating in identical service conditions, The difference in the cost of the fuel is equal to 2.47d. per mile.

The vehicle—a Leyland—was delivered in July of last year, and has completed over 16,000 miles. Although a little trouble has been experienced with the big-end bearings, this has been .overcome by the adoption of a different type. Furthermore, the governor cutout has also been adjusted, so that the vehicle does not now attain more than a maximum speed of 28 m.p.h., which, in the opinion of Mr. IL Clayton, A.M.I.E.E., the general manager Of the transport department, will considerably extend .the life of the bearings. .Other than the points mentioned, the maintenance costs of the vehicle have been similar to those of petrol vehicles of the same type.

That the corporation is well satisfied with the performance of the bus is indicated by the fact that a further order has been placed for an additional, three buses equipped with this type of power unit.
