Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DURING nine mouths of the present financial year the receipts on Newport (Mon.) Corporation's buses and trams decreased by approximately £4,098. The average tramcar receipts over the period were 13.90d. per carmile, against 14.59d. in the previous year, whilst the bus receipts were 12.08d. against 12.54d.

The gross profit on tramcars totalled £4,640. After meeting interest and sinking-fund charges, amounting to £12,528, there was a loss of approxixnately £7,888, against the comparative figure of £6,842 last year.

As regards buses the increased 're

ceipts, amounting to £364, had been more than wiped out by the increase in the price of motor spirit, which amounted to £387. Under practically all headings, apart from petrol, there were slight decreases shown as against the figures for the corresponding period last year.

Gross profit for the nine months amounted to £4,432. After meeting interest and sinking-fund charges, and charges in connection with superseded track, the loss stood at approximately 15,564.
