when it lost its Mercedes tractive unit from its Blaby industrial estate site. Thieves smashed the window of the vehicle, broke the steering lock and depot gates before stealing the 1625 unit. The Leicestershire company had been forced to turn off its alarm six months ago because of complaints by local villagers over the noise.
Managing director Leslie Newcombe believes the thieves were after the engine and gearbox because other newer vehicles were ignored. "I think we'd been watched and set up," Newcombe says.
The aircraft blue vehicle had an illuminated head board bearing the words Newcombe Transport.
The registration is B455 LAY, chassis number 61713125122006 and engine number 42290920095566.
Newcombe is willing to pay a £500 reward for information leading to the conviction of the thieves or the return of the vehicle.
