• A Dutch driver checked by traffic examiners at Ross on Wye, appeared before Hereford Magistrates after it was found that he had been driving excessive hours.

Reinder Drenth, driving for Greying, of Hoogeveen, admitted exceeding the daily driving limit, failing to take sufficient daily rest and exceeding 4.5 hours' driving

without taking the required break.

Prosecuting for the DOT, Janice James said Drenth had started driving from Dover at 06:15hrs on 25 May. He travelled to St Helens, where he delivered part of his load. The rest was dropped in Hereford.

When checked the next day by traffic examiner William Hutchinson, Drenth had driven for 13hr 5rnin with only 5hr 53min of daily rest. He had also driven for 7hr 54min without a 45minute break.

Drenth was fined £192 with 150 costs.
