Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

wHEN Mr. Thomas C. Gray, convy tractor, Letharn, applied to the Northern Scotland Licensing Authority, Mr. H. Riches, for the renewal of his licence to carry livestock within a radius of 100 miles from Letham, Mr. Mackay, for the L.LS. Railway Co., said that company had objected • in order to ascertain whether the applicant had carried livestock within the radius mentioned. Mr. Gray had testified to having operated as far as Motherwell and Glasgow and, therefore,. as Mr. Mackay had no evidence to the contrary, he withdrew his objection, Mr. Riches: " Was your objection for a fishing' expedition? Because I

do not appreciate that kind of objection."

Mr. R. W. Currie, for the applicant, said he was sure that Mr. Mackay was not responsible for this objection, but he should make representations to -those in power, seeking that grounds should be stated for any objection.

. Mr. Riches said that this course . would have tc be taken in the near future and representations to that effect had been made to the Ministry, of Transport. Regulations were in draft form whereby objectors would have to state the nature of their opposition. The application was granted on the same terms as before.
