RAPID progress with the plans for 1‘the first British Motor Show in New York is. reported by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Taking, place between April • 15-23.. the exhibition will be .staged at the Grand Central Palace in the heart of Manhattan.

It has been learned that among the exhibits will be a Foden luxury coach with a two-stroke oil engine and a body built for Salopia Saloon Coaches. Ltd., by James Whitson and Co., Ltd.. A Duple-bodied luxury coach for Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., and a miniature Commer Avenger, powered by a Villiers engine, built by Thomas Harrington, Ltd., Hove, will also be seen.

GLASGOW WANTS LOCAL CONTROL

r LASGOW and the West of Scotland kJ had as much right to control their 'own transport undertakings as had 'London, said Mr, E. R. L. Fitzpaync, general manager of Glasgow Transport Department, at the annual dinner of 'the Institute of Transport (Scottish 'Division), in Glasgow, last week.

Referring to Glasgow's o w n problems, he pointed to the difficulty of running transport economically when workMg full in one direction and empty in the reverse. Housing schemes had greatly complicated his task, because of a lack of amenities and the inability of residents to pay an economic fare.

Coun. Ernest Greenhill urged the need for obtaining the best techMral skill under nationalization, even if the individual did not personally enthuse over State-owned transport.

OBITUARY

WE regret to announce the death of -MR. LAWSON A. DARBY, manager of the London depot of Chloride Batteries, Ltd. He had held the position for over 30 years and was 63 years laid when he died.
