HOULD State-owned haulage concerns be denationalized in the event of a Conservative Government assuming power, no new entrants to transport would be considered unless it were proved that the traffic to be carried could not be handled by an established haulier.

This assurance was given to members of the Road Haulage Association's North Warwickshire Sub-area by Mrs. P. Gordon Spencer, Conservative candidate for the Nuneaton Division. in Atherstone, last week. The former owner of an acquired concern would be offered the return of his business.

In answer to a question regarding the. disposal of vehicles and assets which are not reclaimed, Mrs. Gordon Spencer stated that the Conservative party had given careful consideration to the undesirability of facilitating the formation of private monopolies by block selling, It would be necessary for reinstated hauliers to apply for their former licences to the Licensing Authorities. ,-and this procedure, taken in conjunction with the restriction on new entrants. should effectively prevent exploitation of the party's disposal policy. The grant of an application would, in every instance, he dependent upon proof of need.

BUSINESS AS USUAL.

AS from March 1, Macclesfield and District Transport and Trading Co., Ltd., which has been operating local and long-distance 'services since 1945, will provide daily services for parcels, small lots and full loads between the following points: Macclesfield to (a) Stockport. Manchester and Bolton; (b) Warrington. Widnes, Wigan, St. Helens and Liverpool; (c) Newcastle under Lyme,Burslem, Hanley and Stoke-on-Trent, with through services to Liverpool for full loads.

Twice-weekly, there will be services from Macclesfield to Huddersfield, Halifax, Leeds, Bradford, Leek. Ashbourne, Derby, Nottingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Nuneaton, Leicester, Desborough, Kettering and London.

The long-distance services will, of course, be run under permits issued by the Road Haulage Executive, enabling the concern to operate these services.
