Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Road Haulage Central Wages Board decided, by a majority vote, at its meeting in London on February 8, to initiate a proposal that the following increases in the wages and subsistence allowances of road haulage workers employed by A and B licence holders be added to the scales already enforced under the Road Haulage Wages Order:— Adult workers: 5s. per week increase on Grade I wages; 4s. per week on Grade II; as. per week on Grade UI. Subsistence allowance increase, Is. per day. Juniors: 2e. 6d. per week increase on Grade wages; 28. per week on Grade II; la, 6d. per

week on Grade III. Subsistence allowance increase, 5s. per day.

The proposed wage increases are on the basis of a 98-hour week. In accordance with the procedure laid down, the proposal must be brought before the various Area Wages Boards, and observations on it will be forwarded to the Central Board, either by Area Boards as such or independently by their employers' or workers' panels. Having received thee observations, the Central Board will then come to a final decision, and any recommendation it makes will go forward to the Minister of Labour, with a view to enforcement as under the Road Haulage Wages Order, which came into operation on January 29.

The claim for increases was, as already indicated in our colutnns, based on the rise in the cost of living.
