15-cwt, television van, just put into service by E. K. Cole, Ltd., the wellknown manufacturer of Ekco electrical appliances, that this is the first van of this type devoted solely to television installations and demonstrations. It is completely equipped to enable television pictures to be viewed in the van, as well as with tools and appliances for permanent installations.

Mounted on the roof, like a fireescape, are a triple extending ladder, a roof ladder and a collapsible temporary mast The main ladder extends to 34 ft. and the mast to 30 ft. The latter is actually converted from that for a racing yacht, ferruled and socketed, and can be erected complete with dipole by one man. It is constructed of duraltunin and is exceed

ingly light, weighing less than 1 lb. complete with reflector.

Within the van are carried standard Ekco dipoles, vision units and other receivers, sets of spare valves and tubes in a specially sprung container, drums of co-axial cable and transmission line, and chimney and wallmounting brackets of various types. There is also a range of test gear, including a 20,000 o.p.v. voltmeter, an all-wave signal generator and a special seven-metre oscillator.

Face masks are provided for wearing during the handling of tubes, also boiler suits, and even oilskins for wet weather.

The engineers in charge have been especially trained for their dual work, one of each crew being a highly skilled technician, the other having wide experience of roof work.

The van is specially sprung, and the engine is provided with suppressors to eliminate interference. This vehicle is the forerunner of a fleet of similarly equipped models. The attractiveness of the outfit is enhanced by the finish in two-tone green.
