Grievances Under 1933 Road Act.

A deputation, consisting of Major H. E. Crawfurd, Capt. Jones, Messrs. Lloyd, Moore and Sewill, executives of A.R.O., was received by the Parliamentary Road Group last week. The object of the deputation was to bring to the notice of the Group the grievances arising from the 1933 Act.

A memorandum is being prepared by the Association and it is understood that a further meeting is to take place.

First Weight Record Should be' Enough.

Representations to the authorities have been made by the C.M.U.A., urging that the weight of a vehicle, certified at the time of registration, shall be accepted at all subsequent times, subject to there having been no structural alteration to the machine.

This decision has been reached following a consideration of the position arising from the increase of weight during the life of a vehicle, caused by the accumulation of damp, mud, etc., and by repairs.

ROAD TRANSPORT " APPROACHING NATIONALIZATION.' •

That surrounded, as it is, by. legislation, the road-transport industry is fast approaching nationalization, was the view expressed by Mr. A. A. Liardet, general manager of Leyland Motors, Ltd., at the Preston and District Road Transport Licence Holders Association's hat-pot supper, at Preston.

There were, he added, too many associations, for the industry could not afford to be split up. He agreed that there must be Government control to ensure public safety, hut he deplored Government compulsion in the stabilization of rates and wages.

Other speakers were Mr. A, Horner, Mr. T. A. Tichener, Mr. P. G. Harper and Mr. H. Bridges. Mr. C. le M. Gosseiin, chairman of the Association, presided.
