Stockbeck Haulage Co., Ltd., whose address is given as Barnoldswick, via Colne (Lanes), seek a new A licence in the East Midland, area for, firstly, four vehicles of 13 tons 2 cwt., unladen weight; the application then reads as follows: "and to add 2 vehicles (not exceeding 4 tons each) to be acquired, replacing 2 vehicles (6 tons 4 cwt.) of the foregoing," The user required is fairly wide and the application is annotated to the effect that if granted, an A licence held in the Yorkshire area will be surrendered. On the face of. it, this looks like a straight addition of four vehicles upon a new A licence in the East Midland area, with an undertaking to surrender two vehicles in the Yorkshire area if the application is successful. The East Midland_contract A "switch '! applieation -comes from North Hykeham (Lincoln) hauliers Hodgkinson Transport, who ask for• six vehicles on a new B licence to_. carry goods for Associated British .-Maltsters of Newark " and their associated companies as required." They will surrender a contract A licence for an unspecified number of vehicles if the application is granted. A five-vehicle B licence is sought by Ferns Roadways, Ltd., Of Stoke-on-Trent in the North Western area, to carry pig iron, iron and steel, ganister, scrap metals, solid fuels, oxide, colliery timbers within 200 miles for three named customers. The unladen tonnage totals 25 tons.

An application that will interest Eastern area-based hauliers comes from A. .1. Hayward and Son, Ltd., of Colchester. They ask to vary an A licence by the addition of eight vehicles totalling 291 tons unladen. If granted, they undertake to delete six vehicles from a B licence held by Wrights (Colchester), Ltd.
