• A 24-page booklet has been produced by Newcastle Corporation to commemorate the life of the Newcastle City Transport undertaking which served Newcastle and surrounding areas from 1901 until its takeover by the new Tyneside Passenger Transport Executive at the end of last year. With an introduction by Cllr Neville Trotter, chairman of the traffic, highways and transport committee, the booklet contains a list of officials who have served the department, a brief history of the undertaking, and numerous interesting photographs of some of the vehicles operated, including coupled tramcars operated during World War 1, and the latest o-m-o Atlantean double-deckers.

Also included: a map of the tramway network operated between 1901 and 1935, and the trolleybus network which began to replace the trams in 1935 and operated until 1966. The booklet has been produced by Mr J. Slater. Press officer, Newcastle Corporation. Published separately is a large route map showing the bus system as it stood on December 31 last.
