Mr. Stuart A. Curzon tells us that he has, during the past week. booked amongst other orders six B-type chassis for United Automobile Services, Ltd., and another machine of the same type for the Metropolitan Asylums Board.

Life-saving Appliances, The Comptroller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, in his report for 1912, states that. inventions relating to vehicle wheels numbered just under 1000. Amongst these, suggestions for improvements. in life-guards or obstruction-removers were beginning to assume a measure of prominence towards the end of the year.

A Coventry Sale.

Messrs_ Knight, Frank and Rutley, of 20, Hanover Square, W., have been instructed to offer by auction, on the 1st May, the works that were recently erected on the canal side at Coventry for the British Business Motors Co., Ltd. (now in voluntary liquidation)Messrs. Wheatley, Kirk, Price and Co. will sell the plant, stock, etc.

Co mmercar Testimony.

Messrs. Walker of Kilmarnoek are the latest owners who furnish testimony to the excellent performance that is obtainable with Cornmercar vehicles. The machine, in question, of the maker's' Ye type, used with an average net load of 2 tons 7 cwt. aboard, and an average gross load of 5 tons 3 cwt., has yielded the extraordinary figure of 82.15 gross ton-miles per gallon of petrol, or practically 16 miles of running per gallon. Seeing that the machine is driven by one of the leading prize-winning drivers in the last two C.M.U.A. Parades (C. Hughesden), it is evident how. given a good machine and a good man, exceptional figures for consumption may be obtained. Adams Manufacturing Co.

We learn that an order was made

■ ..ai Saturday last, by Mr. Justice Swinfen gady, appointing Mr. Lewis Hardy receiver and manager on behalf of the debenture holders of the Adams Manufacturing Co., Ltd. No interruption will be caused in the conduct of the business, and arrangements for its reconstruction are well in hand.

At Liverpool.

The 17th annual report of the Liverpool A.C. and Self-Propelled Traffic Association shows that interest ill this old provincial organization, which was founded in the year 1890, continues to be maintained. Particulars of membership may be obtained from the Hon. Secretary, Ashton Chambers, Hitekins Hey, Liverpool. Having regard to the considerable amount of energetic work that was done by this body in the interests of commercial motoring, between the years 1898 and 1901, we think that fresh consideration might well he given just now to the assumption of the additional role of the local representation of the 0.14f.U.A. Mr. J. Graham Reece. possibly, will care to take up that

proposal.

More Motor Mails, The Surveyor, General Post Office, Pearl Assurance Buildings, Portsmouth, is open to receive tenders for the establishment of a motor-mail service between Salisbury and St. Giles. The average weight of the full load of mails is now 8 cwt., but provision must be made for the conveyance of a maximum load of 12 cwt. of mails_ The date for the commencement of the contract is not yet fixed.

This Week's "Motor."

A very remarkable issue of "The Motor " is published this week. It is the New Car Number, and with it. is given a supplement of 44 pages, containing no fewer than 350 illustrations of new cars of 1913, together with specifications of more than double that number. This constitutes the only illustrated and complete buyer's guide to cars on the British market, and is a mostuseful work of reference.

The issue itself, price 1d. and dated Tuesday last, contains a mass of interesting matter, including a valuable article giving pointers for the new car owner which comprises a fund of instructive information, hints and tips. There are also a. series of driving hints for new car owners, and a good article on fuel economy : another article, dealing with running costs, shows how accounts of motoring expenses may be kept. The Dutch Trials.

Twenty-four vehicles have been entered for the Dutch eanunerc.ai motor trials, which began on 16th of April. These are as follow, the number of vehicles entered by each maker being shown in parentheses: Mannestnanii-Mulag (2) 3 and 5 tons ; Bussing (2), 70 cwt. and 90 Cwt. : Adler (2) 4 tuns and 1 ton ; Satire'. (3), two of 4 tons and one of 2 ; 1 )annler .31otoren-Gesellsehait (2), 3 and 4 tons ; Berg_mann-Metallurgique (1), 4 tons ; Lloyd (I), 70 cwt. ; Benz-Gaggenau (2), 50 cwt. and 70 cwt. At the Builders Show.

The fifth biennial Building Exhibition is at present being held at Olympia ; it will close on the 24th Inst. Exhibits of all kinds of material used in building and roadmaking are to be seen there.

Our readers will be interested in the Mann steam road roller exhibited on stand No. 228. Its most prominent features are the interchangeable body and wheels which enable it readily to be converted from a road roller into a haulage wagon. The body is capable of accommodating a load of five tons.

Barford and Perkins, Ltd., Peterborough', shows one of its E3.S. type of tar macadam and roadpatching rollers. This petroldriven model constitutes a second repeat order by the Gloucester County Council. Its distinguishing feature is that the front roller covers the same width of road as do the two rear rollers. It can he ballasted from 61 tons to 8 tons.

Blackstone and Co., Ltd., Stamford, has a 13 h.n. portable oil engine, specially adapted for driving dynamos. pumping, etc. Stand No. 26, occupied by W. E. I3oosey and Co., Ltd., Manton Road, S.E., should prove interesting to steam-wagon users. A useful valve seating tool is shown, the advantage of its use being that valves may be reseated in situ or in the vice, where no lathe is at hand.

Machinery for mixing the various media used in modern road making is well represented. Tar macadam mixers and tar sprayers are greatly improved upon, many machines being of the self-contained continuous type. The stones used in road

metalling are heated and conveyed to the tar macadam mixer all ready for the road, the machine thus forming a complete portable unit. Messrs. J. and P. Hill, Ordnance Works, Sheffield, occupying stand No. 12 in the gallery, will, on Saturday next, the 19th inst., which is Municipal Engineers' day, give demonstrations with their patent motor vacuum street cleaner, in Sinclair Road adjoining Olympia, at 3,15 p.m.
