Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SPECIALIST in the development and manufacture of trailers for particular purposes, J. Rrockhouse and Co., Ltd., West Bromwich,. recently produced an extensible semi-trailer, for use with a Scammell mechanical horse, Which. was put into service at the. beginning of September last. Built for loads of considerable but varying length,, the machine can be adjusted to afford a wide range of distances between the bolsters.

A noteworthy point is that no centre

bolster is employed-, thusno. weight is carried bythe unsupported part of the pole, and the risk of distorting or bending it ha avoided. The large ground clearance of the stabilizer wheels is another. good feature.. These, incidentally, are of the non-steerable type. The Scammeli bogie, however, is steerable, and it was deemed unwise to provide steerable stabilizer 'wheels on thisarcount.

Constructed by welding together the flanges of two steel. channels, the pole is of box section, which is well suited to withstand torsional stresses. Any tendency to overturn is, of course, taken by the stabilizers.

At the front end the pole is equipped with the Scanamell retra.eta, ble undercarriage. The brake is operated from the. driver's cab by the Scaromell standard mechanism, or by a hand lever at the. front of the semi-trailer. A means for adjusting the brake rigging according to the different bolster centres is, of course, provided.
