When Mr. G. Nelson, builders' merchant and carrier, of 6, Church Road, Great Crosby, applied, at Liverpool, for the renewal of his B licence on the same conditions, he produced typewritten sheets giving details of his carryings. Mr, C. R. Hodgson, appearing for the railways, congratulated the applicant and remarked that this was the first occasion he had known a Blicence holder, who was not legally represented, to come so well prepared. In view of this evidence, the railways did not propose to pursue their objection.

B. and E. New London Works.

Bromilow and Edwards, Ltd., Foundry Street, Bolton, announces the opening of a new London works at Mansfield Road, Western Avenue, Acton, W.3. It is equipped for the construction of wood and steel bodies, and the supply of hydraulic tipping and elevating equipment and Principality moving floors, whilst spares can be supplied and repair work undertaken.

B.O.T. Approval for Precision Meters.

A new range of precision meters for the measurement of fuel and lubricating oils was described in. The Commercial Motor dated July 3 last. We now learn from the maker, Precision Meters, Ltd., 104, High Holborn, London, W.C.1, that its Victory-Four meter, previously described as the 4i-in. size, has now been approved by the Board of Trade for the retail .sale of lubricating oils.

Freeing Northumberland Toll Bridge.

The Minirter of Transport has made a grant from the Road Fund to.wards the cost, estimated at £7,250, of purchasing Wylam toll bridge, over the River Tyne. The bridge is the only connecting link for a distance of six Bill to eight miles between the main roads north and south of the river. It was built more than 70 years ago, and, with a width of only 13 ft., is unsuitable for use by modem traffic. A scheme for its improvement will now shortly be undertaken,

New Vulcan Sales Organization for London.

Watson, Ltd., Abbey House, Baker ;tree-t, London, N.W.1, has been tppointed sole distributor for London ind the Home Counties for the Vulcan Motor and Engineering Co., Ltd., Southport. To handle this side of the business, a new company has been formed by the Walson concern, namely, the Vulcan Sales Service Co., which will operate from the same address. The directors of the company are Messrs, A. R. Wilson, B. E. Watson-Thomas and H. C. Mallett, M.B.E.

REMOVALS FROM A-LICENCE DESPITE TRADE INCREASE.

Two vehicles were recently taken off the A licence of Messrs. G. Sheppard and Sons, Warmley, Bristol, by the Western Licensing Authority. The applicants held an A licence for seven vehicles (24 tons 15 cwt.). One vehicle had not been used since September, 1935, and another since December, 1935.

The applicants stated that the vehicles had not been used because trade had fallen generally, but they now found that it was on the increase and wished to be in the position to deal with it. The Licensing Authority said he was not prepared to renew the licence for these two vehicles, and if and when the applicants required them they must apply by way of variation.

Largest Gearless Bus. Fleet.

With the recent order placed with Leyland Motors, Ltd., for 33 Tigers and four Titans, all equipped with the maker's torque converter, West Riding Automobile Co., Ltd., now has more than 130 Leyland buses with hydraulic transmission in service or on order, this being, it is claimed, the largest gearless bus fleet in the world.
