Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN important bus development, coincident with the opening of the new Tyne Bridge by the King on Wednesday fast, was the granting to the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd., by the Gateshead Corporation of sanction to run bilks over the new structure. The effect of this ii to permit the company to continue its many services from all parts of County Durham direct into Newcastle, which formerly have terminated in Gateshead. At present the company is busily engaged upon the erection of a bus station in Worswick Street, Newcastle, which will net as the terminal point for these services. The station will cost f25,000 and will cope with over 12 million passengers per annum.

The services which, at the outset, the company is able to prolong to Newcastle are as follow :—South Shields, Jarrow, and Newcastle (15-minute service) ; Easington Village, Chester-leStreet, and Newcastle (30-minute set, vice) : Durham and Newcastle (10minute service) ; Sunderland, Bolden, and Newcastle (30-minute service) ;

t

Sunderland, Washingto , and Newcastle (30-minute ser e ) ; Seaham Harbour, Chester-le-Str et, and Newcastle (30-minute service).

Other services radiating from the Gateshead neighbourhood will, for the time being, continue to use the Wellington Street bus station at Gateshead as their terminal point, owing to the re

stricted number of licences issued to date. Such excellent progress has been made in the past few weeks that the company was able to open a portion of it new station mentioned above to coincide with the opening of the new bridge. Of the nine loading platforms, which the complete station is to &ontaiu, four were ready for use during the past week, and the remainder will be finished early in November. It is hoped that the offices will be completed before the end of the year.

The company is making extensive fleet additions to cope with this extension of traffic and is taking delivery of a large number of S.O.S. buses fitted with four-wheel brakes. The erection of the new bridge, which is costing approximately i1,150,000, was started in 1925. The Ministry of Transport will bear 60 per cent of the cost and the remainder is borne by the Newcastle and Gateshead Corporations.

The roadway of the new bridge is 93 ft. above high-water level, and the width of the carriageway, which can accommodate four lines of traffic, is 38 ft.
