• P&O Distribution has split its business, with the container handling arm—representing 70% of its volume and 300 vehicles—going to P&O Roadways. P&O Distribution continues its contract work with 100 vehicles.
• The Freight Transport Association has appointed Richard Turner as it's new deputy director-general. Other appointments include James Hookham as executive director of transport policy and Bola Armstrong as regional director for Scotland.
• A body has been set up to represent the interests of UK road sweepers. The British Road Sweepers Association will fight increases in vehicle excise duly.
• David Green, director-general of the Freight Transport Association, has been elected president of the International Road Transport Union for 1996.
• A report has backed plans by the Greater Peterborough Partnership to build a railfreight terminal in the area. The report, by consultants Clarke and Company, recommends the Peterborough Southern Township as the location.
• Urban traffic noise and air pollution is costing Britain E5bn a year, according to a Department of Transportsponsored report, called The Valuation of Environmental Externalities,
