Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

INCLUDED in the exhibits of David Brown Industries, Ltd., Hanworth Park, Feltham, Middx., at the Public. Works Exhibition, which opened at Olympia, London, on Monday, are three new items of equipment, of which the most interesting is an overshot loader.

This machine, which combines the functions of a bulldozer and overhead loader, has a 5-ft. 10-in.-wide bucket of 1-cu.-yd. capacity. It has been built for a specific function and the hydraulic loading gear forms an integral part of a David Brown 50TD tracklayer chassis.

This is powered by a six-cylindered 50-b.h.p. oil engine, which drives a three-speed twin-range gearbox through a Borg and Beck 12-in. clutch. Final drive to the tracks is through spiral-bevel and spur gearing.

As there is no need to turn the tractor when loading, the bucket can be filled and emptied into the waiting vehicle in 25 seconds. There are two 41-in.-bore hydraulic cylinders for lifting the bucket, and for front dumping there is a hydraulically controlled ram for lilting.

'Made under licence from the John Austin Co. of America, the loader is claimed to be the only one of its type at present manufactured in this country.

A second new machine is the 23 industrial tractor, which is based on the David Brown 25D and 30D agricultural types. The latest version is available with either a four-cylindered oil engine or a petrol unit. The gearbox provides six forward speeds and two reverse ratios.

The tractor is equipped with a threepoint hydraulic linkage and an inbuilt traction control unit, which combats wheelslip, Over 50 special implements can be attached to it.

The third new vehicle is the 50TD tracklayer, which supersedes the 50ITD model. Final-drive and track assemblies have been substantially redesigned, the main support in the finaldrive unit now being a one-piece steel casting with integral bearing housing and track-shaft boss.

More robust units are employed in the final drive and the braking has been improved. It is exhibited with a hydraulic angledozer and a new rearmounted hydraulic ripper.

As evidence of the confidence which the maker's put in their products, all David Brown tractors and earth-moving equipment is now covered by a 12-months' guarantee.
