Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN ANALYSIS of the failed clutch centre plate from the DAF FAD 2205 DU 30-ton eightwheeler tested by CM (April 4 issue) has attributed the failure to centrep/ate overspeeding.

DAF Eindhoven and Fitehel & Sachs, the clutch manufacturers, say that such damage is consistent with the vehicle being driven, at some time, with the clutch held out, first crawler gear engaged and at a speed of 16km/h

(10mph)—a clutch centre-plate speed of 8000rpm.

The company feels that the clutch had been severely tested during the vehicle's 27,000km (17,000 miles) of operational trials w:th several operators and that our brief run in a similar gear but at significantly lower speeds was the final straw. There is no intention of altering the clutch specification, which the makers consider to be correct for the duties involved.
