Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Minister of Transport does not expect to decide about compulsor direction indicators on vehicles until he can be guided by experience of the workings of the proposed regulations about indicators which are already fitted.

He stated this in the Commons last week, when he was urged to turn his attention to the larger type of road-transport vehicles which are not fitted with trafficators.

Mr. L. Spriggs (Labour, St. Helens), who raised the matter, also asked the Minister to consider the problem of the size of vehicles and their cabs, the difficulties experienced by following traffic in observing the signals given by drivers of very large vehicles, and the dangers which they constituted on the roads today.

Proposals for the new regulations had been circulated for comment, replied Mr. Marples, and detailed comments were now being received and studied.

LEYLAND SPREAD TO PORTUGAL SSEMBLY of Leyland Group pro1 –& ducts will be carried out in Portugal by a new company formed by Leyland Motors, Ltd., in association with Francisco Garcia et Cia, Ltd-a.. Leyland's former Portuguese distributors.

The new company is known as Leyland Portuguesa, Ltda., and although at first it will be concentrating on the production of standard models, it will develop vehicles specially designed for the Portuguese market. A modern plant is being built at Setubal, 20 miles south of Lisbon. which is expected to be in operation by October.

ing Co., Ltd., opened new premises at Lairs, Sutherland, last week. The company is concerned mainly with mail and goods haulage but with a considerable attention to vehicle sales, spares and servicing.

Last year the company launched an extensive rebuilding scheme.

LEEDS APPOINTMENTS C'OLLOWING the retirement of the chief engineer, Mr. T. H. Parkinson. Leeds transport committee have made the following recommendations to the City Council:—Mr. C. B. France, automobile engineer, to be rolling stock engineer: Mr. R. Webster, works superintendent, to be assistant engineer; Mr. J. R. Blakeborough, technical assistant. to be development engineer.
