Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TYPE APPROVAL is imminent for right-hand drive versions of MAN's 22.321 FVLT and 22.281 FVLT twin-steer tractive units for operation at 38 tonnes it was revealed this week.

Both models have a wheelbase of 3.6m (lift 93/41n) and a spread of 2.3m (7ft 61/2in) between the first and second steering axles.

The same turbocharged intercooled engines are used as with the 16.281 and 16.321 twoaxle tractive units introduced to Britain last September.

The three-axle tractive units have been developed from MAN's existing twin-steer trucks, which have been available on the Continent since 1980.

Air suspension on second and third axles is a standard feature, allowing control of weight distribution between the two. Braking effort applied to the second steered axle is automatically apportioned to load.

Axle design weights of 6.5 tonnes, 6.25 tonnes and 11 tonnes give a maximum design weight of 22 tonnes, but for operation in Britain is limited to 20.33 tonnes.

The Fuller RT011613 range change gearbox is fitted to both models. Michelin Pilots ZX tyres are specified on the two steering axles and XZT tyres on the drive axle. The ability to limit the load of the second steered axle in the part loaded condition is said to greatly enhance tyre life. The retail list price for the 22.321 is about £34,400 excluding VAT.
