THE Appeal ribunal will sit for three days next week at Halifax House, Strand, London, W.C.2. Oti July 20 the appeal of H. P. Lock against a decision of the South Eastern Licensing Authority will be heard, The Railway Executive and five hauliers will appear as respondents.

Next day, F. J. Saunders (The Thames Estuary Delivery Co.) will appeal against a decision of the Metropolitan Licensing Authority. July 22 will be occupied by the hearing of appeals by Wilson Brothers (Ledsham), Ltd., J. H. Hourd and Leslie Kitchen, against a grant by the North Western Licensing Authority to Thomas Bamber and Sons. These cases were to have been heard on July 15.

L.T.E. RAISES THE ROOF ECAUSE of the increased height of certain modern London buses, structural alterations have been carried out at some of the older garages. At Palmers Green garage the entire roof was raised by 10 ins. The roof, consisting of light steel trusses carried on staochions superimposed with boarding, slates, asbestos and patent glazing, covers an area of some 4,000 yds. super, and the approximate weight lifted was 300 tons.

Jacks were placed at 40 points and each was lifted an inch at a time, in sequence. At each lift, 1-in, iron packing pieces were inserted arid when a

suitable height had been reached, these were removed and stools substituted. After each lift, fixing bolts were inserted and tightened up, re-securing the roof to the bedplates. The walls were raised to the new heights as lifting proceeded.

The whole operation was completed in 20 weeks with no interference to normal bus services.
