Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

RE: LORRY ROAD User Charge (CM 2 February), it’s pathetic that certain members of our industry, including those in the trade associations, actually believe that the imposition of a Lorry Road User Charge on our European colleagues who visit these shores will lead to a level playing ield.

What planet do these people live on? Europe’s operators act in a different way to those here in the UK. I know it will come as a shock to most British operators but your European colleagues actually pass on any increase in costs.

So whether the charge is £10, £100 or even £1,000 per day it will be passed on to the ultimate payer – the consumer.

I have a better idea. Why don’t we pay our European colleagues £100 per day for coming here as compensation for our overly congested road network?

And as for our own pathetic efforts and failure to keep the price of road fuel down, French derv last week was a generous 35p per litre cheaper than here in the UK. Despite the efforts of the FairFuelUK Campaign, I can see massive rises in fuel prices coming to a forecourt near you soon.

Look in the mirror... that’s who is to blame for the pathetic state we are in.
