LIMEBOURNE, the operator of London's Gloucester Road coach station, has lost an appeal against an enforcement notice issued by the Royal Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, banning the use of these premises as a coach terminal.
The Borough issued the notice following objections from residents of two nearby streets to coaches driving past their homes to get to the site. The initial planning consent for the site was for a coach park, not a terminal.
However, the Government inspector has suggested a stay of one year to allow the Greater London Council to look at the possibility of introducing a traffic management scheme to overcome the need for coaches to use the roads which prompted the objections.
A scheme exempting coaches from the banned right turn from Cromwell Road to Gloucester Road is already in the consultation stage and if accepted could give Limebourne a chance to reapply for planning consent before the one-year stay period is over.
