Mr. W. H. Winchcombe, chairman of the firm, said that house coal and domestic smokeless fuel would be transported to the docks by heavy goods vehicles before being ferried, across the Channel."We feel ours will be a much quicker and better service than that provided by railways between the ports," he added.

Mr. Winchcombe was speaking at his firm's annual dinner in Nottingham. Another speaker, Mr. C. G. Simmonds, deputy marketing director of the East Midlands Division of the N.C.B., said there was a continuing need for road transport in the East Midlands because of the increase of deep-mined coal.
