A recommendation to this effect as been made by the transport corniittee, which now wishes to apply for 2d. minimum fare and higher workaen's charges. Higher working costs21,000 a year in all—have made these djustments necessary, the recent pay ward increasing the undertaking's nnual expenses by £13,000. New fuel rid tyre prices will cost another £8,000 year.

A blanket application concerning over 10 routes has been tabled by the West 'orkshire Road Car Co.. Ltd, Increases f id. on tickets up to 6d., and of ld. to s. Id. on tickets from 6d. to 10s. 6d, are roposed, whilst contract rates are to go' p• by i6:4 Der cent. and the minimum sturn fare becomes 6d.

Leeds Corporation has now applied or revisions affecting 80 routes.

Joint Area Revisions

Portsmouth Corporation and Southown Motor Services, Ltd„ have applied sr amended fares in their joint area of peration. Workmen's fares, school bus ties and ordinary fares are included in le application, which proposes the subitution of a 2d. fare for the lid., id. iereases between 31d. and 51d., and dditions of 1c1.. Id. and lid. on routes oath of Cosham railway crossing. tage-length revisions on longer joureys would also have the effect of dding id. or Id. to certain fares. Odd J. units in certain tickets would also be holished by the proposals.

Southend on Sea Corporation has nnounced its intention of applying for langes, including the replacement of le Id. minimum by a lid. ticket, and le increase of other fares by id. A eficit of £37,275 has been estimated for ext year, and the Id. fares are stated be causing a loss of £500 a week. Oldham Transport Committee has ibled a scale of fare revisions which

was considered by the town council last week. Losses of £26,485 this year and 152,900 next year have been estimated, and it is proposed to raise the minimum and workmen's return fares by -.1,d.

Complete revisions of fares scales are proposed by the Southern Vectis Omnibus Co., Ltd., operating in the Isle of Wight. Adult returns under 9d. are to be eliminated, single tickets between Id. and 3d. to he raised by id.. by id. between 4d. and lid. and by between lid. and 7d. on tickets of higher denominations.

Midland Red Next ?

The application of Trent Motor Traction Co., 'Ltd., reported in "The Commercial Motor" last week, may be followed by a similar one from the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co„ Ltd., concerning routes in the Trent service area.

Fares on routes operated in the area of the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd., were the subject of an application put before -the East Midland Licensing Authority last week. According to the "Leicester Mercury" Mr. T. Brandon, traffic manager of the Midland Red concern, is stated to have said that a fare. variation scheme is being considered by the Concern and will shortly be presented to the Licensing Authority.

New Derby Proposals

Another application for fare revisions is to be lodged by Derby Corporation. The previous application was heard on January 3, but even if the proposals then discussed be granted in full, the under. taking will have a deficit of £37,140 in 1951-1952, it was stated recently. New changes include discontinuing workmen's 3d. return and lunch-hour returns; the addition of Id. and Id. to 21d. and 3d. tickets respectively; reduction of transfer tickets and limitation of the availability of early-morning return tickets.

Absorption of the reserve fond of 141,000 this year will assist Hull Corporation to reduce the deficit of £59.000 —more than an Sd. rate. A proposal to accept advertising on corporation vehicles had been rejected, it was staled at a recent council meeting, when it was also revealed that East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., with which the corporation has a co-ordination scheme, would probably shortly apply for higher fares.

Over 20 new applications for fare variations were placed before the East Midland Licensing Authority in the past week. Grimsby Corporation proposes all-round id. supplements on fare stages on 13 services. Barton Transport, Ltd., Chilwell, requests permission to raise rates on 48 services by amounts varying from id. to 5d., and to bring charges on others into line with those levied by Nottingham Corporation and the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd. Rates on a number of other routes in the Nottingham and Lincolnshire areas are the subject of other proposals.
