APurchase tax on goods vehicles applied
during the period 1950 to 1959. When it was introduced on May 1 1950 the tax amounted to 331 per cent on all completed vehicles. Two months later the same amount of tax was still payable but in respect of the chassis only and thereafter this distinction as compared with private cars continued to apply throughout the period of the tax.
On April 15 1953 the amount was reduced to 26 per cent only to be increased to 30 per cent on October 27 1955 at which figure it remained until April 8 1959 when purchase tax on commercial vehicles was abolished.
Different rates of tax, or exemption, applied to dual purpose vehicles and other types of small vehicles.
