Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

INFORMATION about special vans 'used to carry cars by rail was given before the Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority last week. Mr. A. M. Henry, for British Railways, said that the railways earned a substantial revenue from the transport of cars. There were at present 2,500 special vans in use, with more being built.

Two small cars or one large car could be carried in the vans. Each -car was secured by straps. The vans had vacuum brakes, which permitted speeds higher than normal.

RR. opposed an application by Mr. Douglas F. Harvey, lv1arkineh, for a licence to operate a car transporter between Fife and English motor factories. He stated that _his vehicle would carry four cars and two trips would be made each week..

Representatives of three Kirkcaldy agents for Ford; Austin and Rootes products spoke of delays of up to 10days in the delivery of cars by rail. Decision was reserved.

WORKS SERVICE TENDER LOWER

I N spite of an . objection that they would not be able to run a works service between Mountsorrel and Qucniboro ugh . War Departritent depot for £2 5s. a day, Messrs. J. R. Smith and Sons, Syston, were, last •week, granted a licence by the East. Midland Licensing Authority.

The objectors, L. Pole and Sons, Ltd., said they had held the licence for several years, and were operating the service at a charge of £3 a day. They claimed that the undercutting was unfair competition.'

Messrs. Smith said their tender of £2 5s: a day for the 34-mile return journey had been accepted by the War Department, on condition that they could obtain a licence.

There was no opposition to an application by the Trent Motor Traction Ca, Ltd., to run works services between Nottingham and Boughton War Department depot The application was granted.

B.R.S. NOT ENTERING MUNICIPAL WORK PAA SUGGESTION that Weston-superMare Corporation should hire from B.R.S. (Contracts), Ltd., haulage vehicles on contract has been abandoned. There was no suggestion that B.R.S. should take over refuse col lection.

It is understood that the two parties were brought together informally and -that B.R.S. did not go out of their way to seek the contract..

Leyland Output Record

DURING the first 11 months of this year, Leyland Motors,. Ltd., produced more vehicles than in any complete year since their formation nearly 60 years ago. Exports so far delivered

this year are nearly 60 per cent. higher, than the average figure for the previous' eight years.

Deliveries. to home operators have been maintained and over the whole year are likely to show an increase compared with the figure for 1954.
