THE nature and importance of the work undertaken by the executive committee of the Standing Joint Committee of Road Hauliers' National Organizations, of which Mr. G. W. Quick Smith is the secretary, can be gathered by the subjects being dealt, with.
These include black-out accidents, fuel rationing, petrol for service cars used in connection with road-haulage businesses, and the position of licence holders after the war, A sub-committee of the executive committee is also continuing to deal with the question of standard rates for War Office and Civil Defence contracts, and it is hoped that a satisfactory conclusion will soon be reached.
Fordson Dealer Extending Commercial Business
FORDSON main agents, Messrs. F. G. Searle, Warwick Street, Worthing. are reorganizing their commercial side and have recently appointed a sales manager (Mr. G. F. Godfrey) and a sales assistant. The firm now have five departments for commercial vehicles, these being sales, workshops, machine. room, batteries shop and paint shop. In addition, a Ford laboratory test set has been installed and a service van has been procured for loan to customers while their vehicles are undergoing repair.
Mr. Godfrey told a correspondent that he is starting a special service for transport managers, which aims at helping them with such problems as licensing, maintenance, and running.

Central Control for Chinese Transport
ALL branches of China's transport are to be controlled by the "Chinese Transportation Co.," according to an official government announcement. The decision was reached at a cabinet meeting following a recommendation by the Ministry of Communications.
The new body will also have under its control the "manufacture and distribution of transportation equipment."
